Oregon football: 3 future opponents the Ducks should schedule
By Bryan Peraza
As most of us know, the Oregon Ducks are one of the biggest and most recognizable brands in college football, and with their potential Heisman Trophy candidate Bo Nix leading the Pac-12 competition in various stats, it’s very likely they will be able to compete for a national championship during this current season, but there’s something that would make the program better, their potential selections for future opponents.
The Ducks, being one of the premier college football teams right now, have shown no fear in terms of scheduling great non-conference foes during the past few years, with various examples being their home and home series’ against teams like Tennessee, Nebraska, Michigan State and Ohio State (with only the second half of the series being played due to the first game being cancelled due to the pandemic), as well as kickoff games against LSU, Auburn and Georgia.
As it stands right now, in future schedule terms, the Ducks have their non-conference schedules set every year between 2024 and 2028 (with some opponents like Portland State, Hawaii or Utah State scheduled between 2029 and 2031), with the most notable future opponents being:
- Texas Tech (2024)
- Boise State (2024-26)
- Oklahoma State (2025-26)
- Baylor (2027-28)
- Utah State (2027-29)
Of course, the Ducks will have to do a very hard job of finding out who can fill their voids left by their impending Big Ten move, as they had two home and home series’ scheduled against Michigan State (2029-30) and Ohio State (2032-33) that will be played as conference games as early as next year.
While it can be argued that the Ducks have a very strong non-conference strength of schedule pretty much every season, there are still non-conference opponents that Oregon fans would look up to seeing the Ducks playing in some way or another, so today, we’ll bring three non-conference future opponents for the Ducks to consider scheduling in the future, mentioning the existing history with the opponent (in case there’s any) as well as why it would be a neat matchup.
