Jack Plummer has led the Louisville Cardinals to 9-1, No. 10 in the country, and today they’re playing for a spot in the ACC Championship game against 6-4 Miami. Still, Louisville fans are getting tired of Plummer’s poor play.

Two missed throws have left points on the table in the first half against Miami. First, Jeff Brohm schemed up a great play that had Jamari Thrash nearly wide-open downfield, but Plummer stared down his leading receiver and led the safety right to his poorly thrown ball.

The play would have given Louisville a 14-7 lead, but instead Miami took the ball right down the field for a score. Louisville answered to tie the game, then Plummer missed a very easy third down throw to his tight end in the flat and force the Cardinals to punt. The Hurricanes took advantage again with another TD drive to take a 21-14 lead.

So, instead of a commanding 21-7 lead, the Cardinals trail because of Plummer’s two big misses.

Coming into the game, Plummer has completed 65.5% of his passes for 2,402 yards with 16 touchdowns. The problem is that Plummer’s interception was his 10th of the year. Turnovers cost Louisville in its loss to Pitt and might cost the team a shot at the ACC title.

Backup quarterback Harrison Bailey only has five attempts on the season, but some Cardinals fans are ready to see anyone else running Jeff Brohm’s innovative offense.

With the first half coming to a close, Plummer is 7-12 for 69 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He has the Cardinals driving down 21-14. This game is turning into a shootout, so Plummer will have plenty of opportunities to atone for his mistakes.
