Matt Rhule and Nebraska football are poised to remake the quarterback room with a possible flip of Dylan Raiola, plus the addition of Kyle McCord.

Nebraska football fans have been wanting head coach Matt Rhule to upgrade the quarterback room this offseason, but even Husker fans couldn’t be prepared for what transpired on Monday.

The first big news was that Kyle McCord, the former Ohio State starting quarterback who entered the transfer portal, was going to take a visit to Nebraska football, along with former Ohio State wide receiver Julian Fleming.

That was big news in its own right. McCord threw for over 3,000 yards last season and had 24 touchdown passes compared to six interceptions. Nebraska football’s quarterbacks, on the other hand, were responsible for 25 turnovers, the most in college football.

It’s why the Huskers finished 5-7. Matt Rhule was determined to overhaul the room. It started with finding a proven starter in the transfer portal.

McCord hasn’t committed yet, but he has received multiple crystal ball projections to commit to the Huskers and it seems like only a matter of time.

Matt Rhule and Nebraska football are making moves

On top of that, Nebraska football is suddenly back in the mix for five-star quarterback recruit Dylan Raiola in the 2024 class. Raiola is ranked sixth overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s also the second-ranked quarterback.

Raiola committed to UGA last summer, but it sounds like something has gone awry with the Bulldogs. Raiola was expected to enroll early. Now, it’s being reported that he will visit Nebraska football this weekend.

That’s significant in part because Raiola could have started practicing with Georgia for the Orange Bowl as an early enrollee. He was expected to move in next week. So the fact that he’s visiting Nebraska, assuming he takes the trip, tells you all you need to know.

If Raiola takes the visit, I’d fully expect him to be a Nebraska football commit, maybe by the end of the weekend, but at least by Early National Signing Day next week.

It would be wild, but also a sign that maybe Nebraska will finally be back under Matt Rhule. The quarterback position has plagued the Huskers for years, but if Rhule can land Raiola and McCord, the Huskers will suddenly have one of the most talented QB rooms in all of college football.
