Week 10 of the College Football season was one that everyone circled coming into the season as a potentially pivotal week. Coming off the first College Football Playoff rankings reveal, there was added weight to what many called Separation Saturday. While the games didn't end up being that close, as most of the Top 25 showdowns were blowouts, the results were significant.
The weekend presented great opportunities for several programs and head coaches, but for every big winner, there's a bigger loser on the other side. Leaving the weekend, 5 head coaches are going to be feeling the heat from their fanbases after awful showings in an important weekend.
5 head coaches who completely flopped in Week 10
Kyle Whittingham - Michigan
Each weekend, it becomes more plausible that Michigan makes Kyle Whittingham a one-and-done head coach, as his team has been a disaster. This weekend brought a loss to the in-state rival that Whittingham didn't know the Wolverines hated, and losing to the team that entered the weekend 2-6 isn't even the worst part. Michigan's offense couldn't score until the 58th minute of the game as Jason Beck's operation continues to be a mess. The schedule isn't getting much easier with Oregon, UCLA, and Ohio State to end the season, as the Wolverines could easily miss a bowl game.
Kalani Sitake - BYU
The loss to UCF gave BYU next to no wiggle room with the College Football Playoff committee ranking the Cougars 9th coming into the Holy War. Utah punched BYU in the mouth with 14 early points, and while BYU took the lead with an incredible 2nd quarter, they seemingly ran out of gas in the second half. After the Notre Dame win, BYU seemed well on their way to the College Football Playoff, but now they're going to need to run the table and get some help to make that happen.
Pete Golding - Ole Miss
After a magical run in the College Football Playoff, Pete Golding had a chance to take the Rebels right back with Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy returning. Instead, Kirby Smart's team certainly remembered the loss they took in the Playoff last year and demolished the Rebels. Getting a quarterback as talented as Trinidad Chambliss is rare, and Golding likely wasted a chance to make the CFP, and to build momentum in his program.
Ryan Day - Ohio State
Coming off an embarrassing showing in a loss to USC, everyone expected the Ohio State Buckeyes to get off the mat and pick up a Top 25 win over the Oregon Ducks. The Buckeyes started like a team looking to send a statement, opening up a 14 point lead to start the game, but Dan Lanning's team scored the next 38 points in a jarring 41-28 loss. Some on the reactionary side will call for the Buckeyes to fire Ryan Day, and that's unrealistic, but this is an embarrassing stretch for the program, and one that's unacceptable.
Lane Kiffin - LSU
The LSU job was so appealing to Lane Kiffin that he left Ole Miss with the Rebels on the brink of the College Football Playoff last season. This offseason, Kiffin was given every resource possible as LSU was going all-in on their new head coach. In what could be the year that the boosters are the most bought in, Kiffin's team looked just like Brian Kelly's, taking their 3rd loss to seemingly end any Playoff hopes in Death Valley.
