Lane Kiffin is college football's version of the Joker, but the SEC may finally be Batman

When Alfred Pennyworth declared in The Dark Knight, “Some people just want to watch the world burn,” he was talking about the Joker — not Lane Kiffin. Trying to understand why the Joker did the things he did was nearly impossible, and with each passing day, Lane Kiffin is becoming harder to figure out himself.

Most of Lane Kiffin's moves seemingly don't have a rhyme or reason or even a reward, yet he continues to take massive risks. The only difference between Lane Kiffin and Heath Ledger's Joker is that Lane Kiffin hasn't ever had his version of the Batman until now.

Lane Kiffin is trying to destroy anything he can, and only the SEC can stop him

After Lane Kiffin's image took a massive hit with his failure with the Raiders, the way he left Tennessee, being fired on the tarmac at USC, and being fired before the National Championship Game by Nick Saban, he set out on a tour to rebuild his image. FAU kept Lane Kiffin out of the spotlight, and once he landed at Ole Miss he did everything he could to try and show he changed.

This offseason alone, Lane Kiffin has seemingly set out to even destroy his own rebuilt image of himself that he created. At Ole Miss, Lane Kiffin declared that he needed Oxford more than they needed him until he decided to leave the team on the brink of his first trip to the Playoff to take the LSU job.

Lane Kiffin boarding the plane to Baton Rouge was never going to be the end of the drama either. Joining Lane Kiffin on the plane to Baton Rouge were several of his assistants who then flew back and forth between the two schools while there was a constant back and forth between if Kiffin was going to stop his coaches from helping the Rebels as the run continued.

When the Transfer Portal opened, Ole Miss fans cried tampering as LSU brought Devin Harper, TJ Dottery, Winston Watkins Jr, and Princewill Umanmielen to Baton Rouge. That's what seemingly made it so comical when Dabo Swinney publicly called out Pete Golding and the Rebels for tampering with Cal linebacker Luke Ferrelli.

Well, it turns out that Dabo Swinney may have gotten some help in laying out how Ole Miss went after Ferrelli. On Wednesday, John Talty of CBS Sports reported that Lane Kiffin fed Dabo Swinney information and egged him on to call out the Rebels.

Dabo Swinney has since denied the reporting, but it's also impossible to believe that he'd ever admit that the information came from Kiffin.

This offseason, every move Lane Kiffin has made has felt like it came with the intention of knocking Ole Miss down a level. While Ole Miss was able to make LSU live up to the buyout clauses, and the fans will get to yell at him when he returns to Oxford, they really can't punish Kiffin in a damaging way.

After making Ole Miss his biggest rival this offseason, Lane Kiffin then decided to anger the SEC and the college football world as a whole by trying to use the 5-for-5 rule to add players from NFL camps to his roster. For the first time in his career, Lane Kiffin finally has a worthy and capable opponent in the SEC, and it may mark his downfall.

As soon as Kiffin tried to add Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris to his roster, the college football world called for rules to stop it. The SEC acted quickly as every league president except for LSU's voted to enact strict rules that would prevent the Tigers from rostering NFL players.

The rules weren't the end, as Greg Sankey will be in a Louisiana court on Thursday in an injunction hearing as the courts and SEC continue to battle over whether the players should be able to play. While the battle rages on, Greg Sankey and the SEC have shown that they're ready to finally combat Lane Kiffin and the chaos he's tried to create, and they have the power to actually punish him.

Lane Kiffin has tried to create chaos at every turn this offseason and in his career, but he's only ever had to fight in the court of public opinion. As the conferences look to finally make a stand in this ever-changing landscape, Greg Sankey and Lane Kiffin will battle for power, and it's going to be Kiffin's biggest test yet, with the conference and the schools in the league against him.

In the end, who knows if Lane Kiffin will end up winning or Greg Sankey, but it's almost certain after this mess, Kiffin will find another way to start chaos.
