Over the years in college football, every head coach develops a reputation, whether it's for winning big games, falling short of expectations, or showing an ability to develop a certain position. From the moment Lincoln Riley became a head coach, he's developed a reputation for being the absolute best at developing quarterbacks. Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Caleb Williams all won the Heisman Trophy under Riley, giving him a track record that no one can match.
While Lincoln Riley's success on the field is a concern for other head coaches, it also becomes a nightmare to recruit against. Programs offer and recruit quarterbacks early in a cycle, but Riley typically waits and reviews all the film, which can make a school uneasy if the quarterback committed to their team picks up a USC offer.
Lincoln Riley picks surprising Texas native as 1st QB scholarship offer
On Sunday Morning, Lincoln Riley and the Trojans finally moved to offer a quarterback, making Texas Native Trey Wright the first target for USC.

Trey Wright being the pick for USC comes as a surprise when you look at the recruiting rankings and some of the talent in California this cycle. According to Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, Trey Wright is the 426th ranked player in the Country, the 29th ranked quarterback in the class, and the 53rd ranked player out of Texas.
Considering that Georgia commit Jayden Wade is the top ranked quarterback in the industry rankings and a California native, many thought he'd be the pick for Lincoln Riley. The same can be said for Moreno Valley native Josiah Boyd, who ranks 5th in the class and has talked about wanting an offer from the Trojans.
When you turn on Trey Wright's film, it's quickly easy to see why he was the pick for Lincoln Riley and his staff. The accolades for Wright were off the charts this past season as he led the Country in total yards with incredible dual threat ability that's found success in Riley's system.

Before the offer to USC, Trey Wright was in the discussion to commit to Clemson before Trace Hawkins' pick of the Tigers certainly gave him a lot to think about. Given the power of USC and Lincoln Riley, the ending could be perfect for all parties if Wright ends up in Southern California after Hawkins beat him to the decision to commit to Dabo Swinney and Co.
