3 reasons to watch the Starco Brands LA Bowl
1. The UCLA quarterback question
The UCLA quarterback picture is murky, but in no way bereft of intrigue. Sure, the highly touted true freshman Dante Moore has entered the transfer portal in search of greener pastures, but this is a position group that, unlike at most programs across the country, was actually utilized like a group during the regular season.
Moore got the most work during the season, throwing 213 passes, but Ethan Garbers and Colin Schlee got plenty of work too. Garbers threw 134 balls for 984 yards and 9 touchdowns, and Schlee threw 31 for 139 and a single score. Schlee started against Arizona State, and Garbers threw 17 or more passes in 5 games this year, especially down the November stretch.
Garbers is the likely starter for this matchup, but it hasn't been confirmed by Chip Kelly. If Garbers starts, it's confirmation that the status quo will continue in Westwood. Should Kelly go with Schlee, it would be an indication that there could be a new main man for the Bruins next year.
Either way, there is a great deal of possibility regarding the UCLA quarterback position. The other factor involved with these two quarterbacks is that they are playing for a job. The transfer portal has plenty of options still on the market, and Kelly could decide to look elsewhere if these two don't do anything to solidify his confidence in them.
Whoever is playing quarterback in this game, and both could, will be playing for Kelly and potentially every coach around the country. At this position, there will be no question as to how much a bowl game matters.
