What the commitment of Kyle McCord means for the upcoming Syracuse football season and more.

Syracuse football is trying to prove that it should be taken seriously once again. Hiring Fran Brown away from Georiga to be the next head coach was the first step.

The next was landing former five-star quarterback and Ohio State starter Kyle McCord in the transfer portal, which Syracuse football did this weekend.

For the Orange, it's a massive commitment. Syracuse football doesn't sign five-star quarterbacks -- not coming out of high school anyway and even as just a one-year rental, the commitment of McCord shows that the Cuse are serious about winning.

It's been reported that Kyle McCord left Ohio State because he wasn't guaranteed a starting job. NIL also seemed to be a factor and I don't believe Syracuse football would have landed the former Buckeyes starter without a solid NIL package.

Say what you will about McCord, but he threw for over 3,000 yards this past season, in addition to 24 touchdown passes and just six interceptions. Do you know the last time Syracuse football had a quarterback throw 20 touchdowns or more?

Ryan Nassib -- back in 2012. That Syracuse football team went 8-5. Since then, the Orange have had just three winning seasons and just one season with more than eight wins.

McCord has gotten lots of criticism from Ohio State fans, but he's a major upgrade for Syracuse and was nearly committed to Nebraska if the Huskers weren't close to flipping Dylan Raiola, the No. 2 quarterback in the 2024 class.

McCord wanted to be guaranteed the starter and that couldn't happen at Nebraska if Dylan Raiola signed as part of the 2024 class. But at Syracuse, it makes sense. It would also make sense for the Orange to pay his NIL request because he's easily the best quarterback Syracuse football has had in the past decade.

And truly, McCord is the kind of quarterback the Orange haven't had probably since the days of Donovan McNabb.

Syracuse football fans had to be excited with the hire of Fran Brown and now that they have McCord, a kid with ties to New Jersey and one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal, Orange fans have to be itching for the Fran Brown era to start officially.
