USC freshman Trent Mosley is creating the perfect debate for Lincoln Riley to solve

Lincoln Riley entered the 2026 college football season under a ton of pressure as USC is still waiting for their head coach to lead them to the College Football Playoff. This offseason, Lincoln Riley declared that a championship window just opened for the Trojans, and while it doesn't take that long in this era, it starts the clock for USC.

The biggest reason for optimism in Los Angeles was the fact that Lincoln Riley just signed the Nation's No. 1 ranked recruiting class, bringing a great wave of talent to the Trojans. Thus far, USC has jumped out to a 2-0 record, and the freshman class has been integral to the Trojans' success. Through two games, several freshmen are emerging as superstars for Lincoln Riley.

Trent Mosley is becoming USC's most valuable receiver

The addition of Terrell Anderson, with Tanook Hines returning, made it seem like finding time for freshmen in the wide receiver room would be difficult. Instead, Anderson hasn't made his debut yet, while Hines missed the season opener, which cracked the door open for all the freshmen to prove their worth.

Trent Mosley instantly took advantage of the opportunity in the season opener, catching 7 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown, building instant chemistry with Jayden Maiava.

The opportunites in the second game of the season were only going to shrink with Tanook Hines returning to the lineup. Instead, Trent Mosley found a way to be even more productive on his limited touches, catching 4 passes for 104 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

While the games have been against lesser competition, it's impossible not to be excited about what Mosley has shown through two games. The freshman wide receiver is finding space in the coverage and letting Jayden Maiava find him, and once the ball is in his hands he can create electric plays after the catch.

Lincoln Riley had an impossible task on his hands at the start of the offseason with Makai Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane departing for the NFL. While everyone looked at Tanook Hines or Terrell Anderson as the next WR1 for the Trojans, it's becoming impossible not to include Mosley in that conversation. USC will need to see Mosley continue to succeed against tougher competition, but the other receivers have had the same opportunity, and haven't flashed quite like the freshman.
