One great game against the evil Alabama Crimson Tide empire with a freshman quarterback has the entire college football world raving about this Oklahoma Sooners team this year. As if the rest of the Big 12 doesn’t exist.

The conference has all the makings of being a two-horse race between the Baylor Bears and Oklahoma, but what about Oklahoma State? What about Texas, who still has a lot of talent under its new head coach? Can Texas Tech or Kansas State make a run?
Then you have West Virginia and TCU, more than capable of playing spoilers to these other teams. It’s not so easy to simply crown the Sooners. There are many questions facing them, and they aren’t answered by a Sugar Bowl performance.

Cincy on the Prowl
The good news for Sooners fans is the team has not yet gone two straight seasons without a Big 12 title since Bob Stoops arrived. The bad news is they lost to Baylor 41-12 last year and have to get past them again.
And they also lost to Texas, a team that can’t be counted out of the Big 12 title race itself. They will be good immediately under strong, which might turn this into a three-horse race.

With the First Pick
However, a few teams are expected to fall off the map this year, so don’t expect the conference to be as good as it was last year, when it was the No. 3 conference of the Power Five. This year, it will probably compete with the ACC for the worst conference.
And it’s very much up for a debate if the conference will put anybody in the playoff.
