Vegas Pac 12 Predictions Week 2

Let’s be honest. It wasn’t a great opening week for Pac 12 football. The conference had a rough time with some bad losses and close games they shouldn’t have had, which we documented in our Conference Power Rankings here. It began with Washington State’s bad home loss to the Rutgers Thursday night, then UCLA had a rough time putting away lowly Virginia on Saturday morning, Washington had trouble beating Hawaii, and Colorado lost at home to Colorado State.

That’s not a great look for the conference, but it has a chance to redeem itself this week. There is the huge game between Michigan State and Oregon that will stop the college football world Saturday evening as we finally get an exciting Big Ten-Pac 12 showdown. Both teams are among the favorites to win their conferences, especially Michigan State in the Big Ten with the Braxton Miller injury looming over Ohio State. A win by the Ducks this weekend would very quickly restore Pac 12 pride.

Unfortunately, that is the only non-conference match-up the Pac 12 has against another Power Five team. But that won’t keep this weekend from being exciting. Arizona and Washington State have respectable mid-major tests against UT San Antonio and Nevada respectively on Thursday and Friday. Both of those could turn into exciting late night games to watch.

And then there’s the first big conference game of the year Saturday afternoon in USC and Stanford. They may be in different divisions, but both teams are looking to make it to the Pac 12 championship game and possibly the college football playoff. This could be a big game in determining that.

The Pac 12 has some work to do to gain back some respect. Will the conference do it? Find out here.
