Tanner McEvoy continued to start and it was soon revealed Joel Stave had lost his confidence. In last week’s 20-14 loss to the Northwestern Wildcats, Tanner McEvoy was benched in favor of Joel Stave.
According to Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel, Joel Stave will be starting on Saturday when the Badgers take on the Illinois Fighting Illini.
"Joel Stave had to wait until week 5 to return to the Wisconsin huddle this season. It appears the redshirt junior quarterback from Whitnall High School won’t have to wait nearly as long to make his first start of the season.According to sources close to the team, Stave is set to return to the starting lineup when UW (3-2, 0-1 Big Ten) hosts Illinois (3-3, 0-2) at 11 a.m. Saturday.“That would be cool,” Stave said early in the week when asked about the possibility of returning to the starting lineup. “It has been a while. “Those first four or five weeks…it took a long time.“It would be exciting to get a chance to start again.”"
Joel Stave completed 208-of-336 passes for 2,494 yards with 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions last season. This year, he is eight-of-19 for 114 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
The Badgers and Illini will kick-off at noon EST Saturday and the game is on ESPN2.
