Barrett filled in admirably for the injured Braxton Miller last year after the two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, setting program records for offense and breaking Drew Brees’ Big Ten record for total touchdowns before breaking his ankle in the win against Michigan in the regular season finale.
Had he not fractured his ankle that game he was likely in position to be the fourth Heisman Trophy finalist along with Marcus Mariota, Melvin Gordon and Amari Cooper, but he can take solace in the fact that he will have more time to get to New York for that ceremony.
He can also take solace in the fact that despite being limited in spring practice, Barrett is still competing in 7-on-7 drills and according to Cleveland.com is ahead of schedule in his rehab.
