Graham was instrumental in the development of Marion Grice and D.J. Foster and a key cog in the team’s recruiting efforts.
While the exact reasons for the younger Graham’s departure is still unknown, the head coach wasted no time in naming a successor in assistant running backs coach Josh Martin.
Martin was an offensive graduate assistant last year, where he worked with the offensive line, and has prior experience as an offensive line coach at Tarleton State University, where he played during his college days, according to his bio. As a player, Martin was a three-year starter at offensive guard for the same Tarleton State University. He has also worked for Texas Tech University as an assistant coach. At the start of camp this year he was named assistant running backs coach.
Hopefully, Martin will step right in and perform admirably as the new coach, and the Sun Devil running game will not miss a beat. Led by Demario Richard, Arizona State’s running backs hope to improve upon last season when they ranked in the middle of the pack, sixth, in rushing offense in the conference. A senior quarterback who can launch the ball down the field should help loosen the defense, but the Sun Devil’s laud themselves as a well-balanced team.
With the depth this team has at running back, that should not be an issue and the sudden exit of Graham will not keep this group from achieving the lofty goals Arizona State has set, and the newly promoted Martin sounds ready to get to work, via cronkitesports.com saying, “Next guy up, just like we tell our guys.”
