Oklahoma Football: Five reasons why Sooners win Big 12 in 2015

Oklahoma football fans should be cautiously optimistic as the dawn of the 2015 season approaches. The Sooners have all the necessary pieces in place to win the Big 12 title.
The Oklahoma Sooners finished the 2014 season with an 8-5 record including a disheartening 40-6 loss to Clemson in the Russell Athletic Bowl. The Sooners’ season was derailed by inconsistent play at quarterback and breakdowns on defense.

This year will be a different story. Oklahoma will feature an explosive offense and a defense that is solid enough to win games in the Big 12. The Big 12 is a conference that features high-powered offenses. If you cannot score a lot of points, you will not win many conference games.

TCU had the best defense in the conference in 2014 while allowing 341.8 yards per game. To put that number in perspective, TCU would have ranked No. 5 in the Big 10 and No. 7 in the SEC in total defense. A team does not have to have a dominant defense to win the Big 12. They simply need a defense capable of getting enough stops to allow their offense to outscore the opponent.
The Sooners have a couple of impact players returning who were forced to sit out the 2014 season. When you add a potential all-conference players on both sides of the ball, you can change the entire trajectory of a team.
Oklahoma will have a new look on offense and should be improved on defense. While most people believe TCU or Baylor will win the Big 12 in 2015, the Sooners have the talent needed to beat both of those teams. This is a look at why Oklahoma will win the conference in 2015.
