Texas Football: Tyrone Swoopes to start at QB Longhorns vs Baylor
With Jerrod Heard recovering from a concussion, Tyrone Swoopes will start at quarterback for the Longhorns in their season finale vs the Baylor Bears.
With the season finale against No. 12 Baylor coming up Saturday, the Texas Longhorns will be without their starting quarterback. Texas head coach Charlie Strong announced Monday that Tyrone Swoopes will start in place of Jerrod Heard as he recovers from a concussion.
Strong said that Heard will be evaluated during the week by team doctors and could play if he is cleared by the medical staff.
Swoopes does have experience in the starting role this season, starting the opener after assuming the role most of the 2014 campaign, but was replaced by Heard after the Longhorns’ 38-3 loss at the hands of Notre Dame.

Talk about a pressure situation.
Swoopes will have his hands full with a stout Baylor team. However, I expect it to go smoother than the season opener against the Irish. He has had almost a full season to absorb the playbook, which for quarterbacks in particular, can slow down the game a little bit more and allow them to feel more comfortable with reads and progressions.
If there is any good news for Swoopes and Texas, it is that Baylor struggles defending the passing game. With 2,641 passing yards allowed on the season which breaks down to 240.1 per game, that has been one of the Bears’ weaker areas to this point.
