Jim Harbaugh responded to his latest critic with a hot take that left Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith feeling the burn.

Ever since Jim Harbaugh returned to his alma mater to replace the inept Brady Hoke as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, he has done nothing but positive things for his program all the while ruffling the feathers of his competitors.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith threw some serious shade at Harbaugh when he was asked about his spring practice schedule when he said, “If we were jump starting our program, I’d probably try to do that too.”

Naturally,  After firing shots at Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and Tennessee’s Butch Jones for their critical comments this offseason, Harbaugh couldn’t let this one slide.

Harbaugh tweeted back with this, “Good to see Director Smith being relevant again after the tattoo fiasco. Welcome back!”

Harbaugh references the tattoo scandal under Smith’s watch that forced former head coach Jim Tressel to resign and prematurely put an end the college career of All-Big Ten quarterback Terrelle Pryor, among others.

After most of the month of February was spent with other coaches and rival conference commissioners whining about Harbaugh bringing his team to Florida to practice over spring break, March hasn’t let up and spiced up the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry.

There really is no response necessary from Smith after Harbaugh eviscerated him twitter-style with these 14 words.

Can we just take a minute to thank Harbaugh for returning to the college game for all of us to enjoy?

Not that Michigan and Ohio State needed any fuel added to the fire in their rivalry, but with eight months to go before the next installment of The Game, this great rivalry got that thanks to the AD’s back-handed slap.

He started it, but Harbaugh clearly ended it.
