Former Florida Gators Heisman winner Tim Tebow could be the next congressman in the state of Florida.

Tim Tebow recently left open the door for a possible career in politics and the former Heisman Trophy winner perked the ears of Republican’s in the state of Florida.

According to the Washington Examiner, the Republican party in Florida is pushing for Tebow to run for U.S. Congress in Florida’s 4th District, which includes Tebow’s hometown of Jacksonville. The seat is opening this fall with the retirement of 71-year-old Republican Congressman Ander Crenshaw.

“Like his career with the Denver Broncos, the primary game is going be extremely competitive so Tebow may have to once again come from behind late in the 4th quarter in order to pull this off,” Republican communications strategist Ron Bonjean told the Examiner. :If he were to become the Republican nominee, he would be a shoo-in because it is a safe Republican seat.”

The 28-year-old Tebow could appeal to the younger generation of voters who watched him star for the Gators for four years, helping lead the team to two national championships.

And he can appeal to older voters for the same reasons.

His lack of experience in politics may not be as much of a concern considering Tebow’s work with the Tim Tebow Foundation that does a lot of great things for the youth. Further, he hasn’t been shy about his religious beliefs and stance on social issues, so he could be a fresh and bright young candidate.

Sure, he could use some coaching up before officially making a run for Congress so maybe he can hire Urban Meyer to be his campaign manager. After all, no one has been able to get the most out of Tebow than his former college coach, right?

Okay, in all seriousness, I could see Tebow in politics and I would imagine he would be every bit as polarizing as he was during his playing days.
