Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban had his turn at SEC Media Days where he fielded questions about the status of Cam Robinson and Hootie Jones after their spring arrest.

Nick Saban was behind the microphone on Wednesday morning as the head coach of the defending national champions had his turn at SEC Media Days. Saban fielded his usual softball questions in the early portion of his question and answer session with the media before finally being asked about the status of Cam Robinson and Hootie Jones.

The All-SEC left tackle and defensive back were arrested in Mid-May and charged with felony possession of stolen firearms, possession of marijuana and for illegally carrying a weapon in the presence of drugs. The charges were dropped a little more than a month later in June but the question remained what Saban would do with the two players.

After the charges were dropped, I wrote about whether Saban would suspend them for the season opener against the USC Trojans but believed the internal discipline imposed on the two would be enough for Saban to avoid suspending them.

Saban seemed to confirm as much at SEC Media Days when he said if they fulfill the obligations of their internal discipline, which included police ride alongs, community service and passing numerous drug tests, they will have a chance to play in Week 1.

Notice Saban said they will have a chance to play, not that they will play, and that Saban took issue with the notion that you can’t discipline players or help them in other ways besides making them miss game action.
