The Big 12 football media made their preseason picks to win the conference and the Oklahoma Sooners came away on top.

Bob Stoops and his Oklahoma Sooners won the Big 12 last year after a disappointing 8-5 season the year prior and now the media picked them to repeat as conference champions.

With a Heisman hopeful at quarterback in Baker Mayfield and a two-headed monster at running back with Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon, the Sooners should have one of the best offenses in the country again in Year 2 under coordinator Lincoln Riley.

Oklahoma received 24 of a possible 26 votes with the TCU Horned Frogs getting the other two first-place votes. The Sooners’ in-state rival, the Oklahoma State Cowboys came in a close third behind TCU to establish a clear upper-tier in the Big 12.

Below the top three, a clear divide exists with the crumbling Baylor Bears coming in a distant fourth after Art Briles was fired, they lost half their recruiting class and talented quarterback Jarrett Stidham elected to transfer.

Despite all that, they are picked to finish ahead of the Texas Longhorns who came in fifth, five votes behind Baylor, according to the media’s poll, which you can see in full below.

1. Oklahoma (24 first-place votes) 258 points

2. TCU (2 first-place votes) 222 points

3. Oklahoma State 202

4. Baylor 156

5. Texas 151

6. Texas Tech 141

7. West Virginia 126

8. Kansas State 88

9. Iowa State 59

10. Kansas 27

Props to the Kansas Jayhawks for having one person pick them to finish in ninth place instead of tenth after going winless last year in David Beaty’s first season in Lawrence.

Will Oklahoma cruise to another Big 12 title or will there be a surprise champion in the conference?
