The Auburn recruiting class added the commitment from four-star running back Devan Barrett.

Another day, another commitment for Auburn. Wednesday, it was 2017 four-star running back Devan Barrett (Tampa Catholic. Tampa. FL) who made the pledge per Keith Niebuhr of 247Sports.

Barrett is the No. 222 player in the 2017 class, No. 17 running back, and No. 35 player in the state of Florida per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Recruited to the Tigers by running backs coach Tim Horton and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee, he accumulated 41 offers in total.

On the Auburn front, the Tigers begin recruiting him hard this year, offering him a scholarship on January 5. On March 25, he took an unofficial visit to the campus and that would be all until June 15 when he would take another unofficial visit. He did visit the North Carolina Tar Heels two days after on June 17, but in the end, he determined Auburn was the right place for him.

One of the major factors in his commitment was the environment of the campus.

“The environment,” Barrett told 247Sports. “It just feels like home every time I go down there.” It just feels like family.”

This commitment just adds to the recruiting tear that Auburn has been on this summer. When May began, the Tigers were in the middle of the pack in the 247Sports Team Rankings at No. 45. Now, they are sitting pretty at No. 12 with the commitment of Barrett who is the 13th commitment of the class. That is good enough for No. 6 in the SEC per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

Barrett is an elusive running back who is not afraid to take contact and he can bounce off tacklers with ease. He does a nice job of scanning the field while he runs and is not afraid to cut back a time or two in order to gain extra yards. Once he is in the open field, he does a nice job of accelerating and finding paydirt. He should fit well in Auburn’s offense.
