Heisman Trophy Watch 2016: Top 5 candidates after Week 5
J.T. Barrett’s numbers won’t blow anyone away, but the Buckeyes’ junior quarterback has been as reliable as they come. He has been effective with his arm and legs through five weeks as the Buckeyes are 4-0.
Not many teams can put together solid starts the season like the Buckeyes have had. He has come in as the third-year starter and led a young Ohio State team to blowout victories over Bowling Green, No. 14 Oklahoma, Tulsa and Rutgers to begin the year.
Ohio State has jumped to No. 2 in the polls after a strong start to the year and Urban Meyer has Barrett to thank. It’s starting to look like the quarterback is trying to prove his head coach wrong for starting Cardale Jones over him last season. You can bet Meyer regrets that decision.
Through four games, Barrett is 69 percent of his passes for 888 yards and 14 touchdowns with only two interceptions. He also has 205 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground. We are going to see this kid play his best ball of the year in Big Ten play, just watch.
