1. Neither starting quarterback plays the entire game

As previously mentioned, Keller Chryst has been mediocre the entire 2017 season and I think a solid quarterback like Kevin Hogan had been drastically under-appreciated in Northern California. Chryst has thrown eight touchdowns compared to four interceptions for only 962 yards for the Cardinal.

K.J. Costello, a 6-foot-5 sophomore from California, has looked much more promising than Chryst in limited time. He’s thrown for four touchdowns to zero interceptions, while adding 492 yards on 7-plus yards per attempt.

Luke Falk is Washington State’s all-time leading passer. However, Mike Leach hasn’t been pleased with the senior quarterback’s performances this season and has played Tyler Hilinski in spot duty. Hilinski isn’t anything great and Falk will start every week this season, but will he finish? That’s the question.

I could see Mike Leach getting frustrated with Falk against the Stanford defense, and with limited possessions because of the way Stanford and Love will run the football, Leach will get antsy. The spread to pass teams always do. And they want possessions back and they want them to turn into touchdowns.

If Falk’s offense has to do up-downs again and he is stuck in a crunch position, it’s going to be Hilinski’s job. The world can field another weekend of questions about “Who will Mike Leach start?” and the answer will still be Luke Falk.
