Iowa State is coming off a 7-4 regular season including a Liberty Bowl victory over Memphis in Matt Campbell’s second year as head coach. The success led to numerous rumors that Campbell could be headed elsewhere but that was put to rest when Athletic Director Jamie Pollard signed Campbell to a contract extension.

As good as Iowa State was in 2017, they were two games away from playing Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game. Both games saw the Cyclones let a fourth-quarter lead slip away showing there was still a lot of room for improvement. Iowa State was in every game last season, proving just how close they were.

Keep in mind the Cyclones accomplished all of this with a third-string quarterback in Kyle Kempt. Some of the best news this offseason for Iowa State was the NCAA granting Kempt a sixth-year of eligibility. So what is next for Iowa State football, has the ceiling been met or is this season going to be even better?
