Florida Football: 5 fixes Gators must make for the 2019 season
By Shelbie Warr
4. Dan Mullen has to join the top-four of SEC recruiting, at least
It is first important to note that until a few days ago, Florida hadn’t grabbed a five star recruit since 2015. They have one now, but he isn’t a factor until 2021 — so that doesn’t do much of anything for the Gators now.
In all honesty, that isn’t even a solid commitment. He still has quite a bit of time to change his mind, so to keep him around, Dan Mullen has some more work to do in terms of recruiting.
As it stands now, Florida sits at No. 11 in the nation and No. 5 in the SEC according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. In the SEC, they sit behind Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M and LSU.
The Gators beat LSU this season and lost to Georgia. They haven’t played the likes of Alabama or Texas A&M this season, but they do have to beat out both in terms of recruiting if they want to rise to the top of the conference.
Ranked ahead of the nationally are those four teams as well as the Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma, Michigan, Oregon, Clemson and Penn State. Obviously, the only team they have played this past season is Michigan and they won in a big way.
However, like I said, this team has to recruit even better than they are as of right now to really move into the spot they want to be in for 2019 and beyond.
