Florida Football: 5 signees who’ll have instant impact for Gators in 2019
Florida has a tight end waiting in the wings following the departure of senior C’yontai Lewis who totaled nine catches for 128 yards and no touchdowns in 2018. The tight end position was not at all productive, but that could soon change.
Soon-to-be junior Lucas Krull had six catches for 75 yards, second among Florida tight ends in 2018, while freshman Kyle Pitts, a former Under Armour All-American had three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdowns. The latter seems to be the favorite to replace Lewis in the starting lineup, and why wouldn’t he be? He’s a 6-foot-6 athletic specimen at the position.
Though those two currently lead the way (along with Kemore Gamble), four-star tight end Keon Zipperer appears to be a talented prospect who could see the field immediately.
Zipperer isn’t as big as Pitts, standing just 6-foot-2, but he does weigh about 240 pounds and can be a bruiser with the ball in his hands. He’s quick for his size, running a 4.61 40-yard dash, according to 247Sports. Also, he’s an aggressive blocker, which is exactly what Florida needs.
The four-star from Lakeland’s blocking ability could get him on the field faster and his ability to catch the ball in tight windows will keep him there. He’s listed as the second-best tight end prospect in the class and No. 104 overall, according to 247Sports.
