The first round of the 2019 NFL Draft provided plenty of trades and drama. As was long expected, Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray was the first overall pick to the Arizona Cardinals, teaming him with Kliff Kingsbury in what should be one of the most fun storylines in the NFL next season.
It was long thought that defense would rule the day in the first round this year, and that mostly held true with 18 of the 32 first round picks being on the defensive side of the ball. The variance was even greater at the top of the draft, with four of the top five and seven of the top 10 picks being used on defensive players.

There were several other surprises like the Raiders taking Clelin Ferrell at No. 4; the Packers trading up for Darnell Savage at No. 21; the Texans taking Tytus Howard at No. 23; the Seahawks grabbing L.J. Collier at No. 29; and the Falcons trading back into the first round to take a second offensive lineman in Kaleb McGary instead of focusing on improving one of the league’s worst defenses.
Those surprises undoubtedly led to some unexpected players still being on the board at the end of the opening night in Nashville. There were plenty of snubs to choose from, but these were the five most surprising players who slipped to day two:
