Last Chance U Season 4: Where is Malik Henry now?
Malik Henry made a surprise appearance in Last Chance U’s Season 4 but where did the former Florida State blue-chip recruit wind up?
Were you as surprised as I was to see Malik Henry appear in Season 4 of Last Chance U after he left Independence C.C. after Season 3? It was a shocking development, met with mixed emotions from the team, but Jason Brown brought him back.
Guys like Markiese King and Chance Main weren’t overly supportive of the decision and Jay Jones seemed to lose a ton of confidence, but Brown assured the team it was only as a practice team quarterback and nothing more — Henry told a different story. He claimed that Brown never told him he’d be a scout team player, but laughed it off when it was brought up in an interview.
Henry eventually worked his way back onto the field and attempted 43 passes during the season, but Brown decided to cut Henry after one of the many tough losses ICC suffered because he claimed, “Malik hasn’t changed.”
Brown expected a lot from Henry both on and off the field and he felt as if his starting quarterback from the 9-2 season was too immature to continue on with the team and eventually apologized to Jones and the rest of the team for bringing him back.
Some were curious as to why he cut him so suddenly with no serious altercation taking place, but that’s the kind of coach Brown was — unpredictable.
So where is Henry now?
At the end of the season, the Last Chance U credits talked about the whereabouts of some of the stars, stating that Henry walked on at Nevada and broke out in the spring. This is all true and he even had the best spring game performance of any of the quarterbacks and there’s a strong belief that he’ll be the Wolf Pack’s No. 1 guy come fall camp.
Henry will have to beat out Cristian Solano, a senior, as well as freshman Carson Strong for that starting job, and there’s a strong belief that he’s in a good position to do just that.
In fact, Mountain West Wire even voted him the preseason favorite to win the conference’s Newcomer of the Year award. You don’t win that type of vote if you’re not in a good position to win the quarterback battle.
Henry will get a chance to prove himself against a Power Five foe in Week 1 as Nevada hosts Purdue and then travels to Oregon the following week. Can he break out in 2019?
