Quarterback

Starter: Terry Wilson
Backups: Sawyer SmithJoey Gatewood*, Beau Allen

Luck was not on the side of Wildcat quarterbacks last season. Starter Terry Wilson, who led the Wildcats to just their third 10-win season in program history in 2018, suffered a torn patellar tendon in a Week 2 victory over Eastern Michigan, ending his season.

Troy transfer Sawyer Smith, moved under center and gave a valiant effort in a loss to Florida but suffered an injury of his own and after three games, all of which the Cats lost, he was sidelined.

Luckily, Lynn Bowden Jr. moved under center from his from wide receiver position and guided UK to an eight-win season. Now in 2020, UK will have both Wilson and Smith back for one final season.

There’s also a chance Auburn transfer Joey Gatewood could be an option for the Wildcats. The former four-star prospect left the Tigers after losing the starting job to Bo Nix and is seeking an immediate eligibility waiver. He will likely sit behind Wilson as a second or third-stringer if eligible. If he’s not, true freshman Beau Allen will likely be the Wildcats’ third quarterback.
