SEC Football: The best quarterback in each program’s history
Another SEC football star turned NFL Pro Bowler
With Dak Prescott at quarterback, Mississippi State took the nation by storm and became one of the marquee programs in the SEC West.
Prescott took over as the Bulldogs starting quarterback in 2014 and led the team to a 9-0 start that included wins over then-ranked No. 8 LSU and No. 2 Auburn. The team spent three seasons as the nation’s No. 1 team before being knocked off by Alabama.
They’d go onto finish 10-3 with a loss to Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl. Prescott earned first-team All-SEC honors after throwing for 3,449 yards with 27 touchdowns while adding 986 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.
As a senior in 2015, Prescott again earned first-team All-SEC honors as he threw for 3,793 yards and 29 touchdowns with 588 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. The Bulldogs posted a 9-4 season capped off with a 51-28 Belk Bowl victory over NC State.
Prescott leads the Bulldogs program history in both passing yards (9,376) yards passing touchdowns (70). He owns single-season records in passing yards (3,793) and passing touchdown (29).
The dual-threat quarterback also owns the program’s single-game record in passing yards (508) and touchdowns (5), both of which were set in a 2015 victory over Arkansas.
Prescott was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He is now a two-time Pro Bowler and entering his fifth season as Dallas’ starting quarterback.
