Big 12 Football: The best quarterback in each program’s history
In a school with rich quarterback history, it’s hard to pick Oklahoma‘s top quarterback, but Baker Mayfield has to be the choice.
After winning Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors at Texas Tech in 2013, Mayfield transferred to Oklahoma, where he became a star in Norman.

He earned first-team All Big-12 in each of his three years as the Sooners starter was a first-team All-American twice (2015 and 2017) and was named the Big 12 Player of the Year twice (2015 and 2017).
In 2017, Mayfield took home the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Davey O’Brien Award and the Associated Press Player of the Year after throwing for 4,627 yards and 43 touchdowns on just six interceptions and with a completion rate of 71 percent. He also added 311 rushing yards and five touchdowns and even hauled in a touchdown reception.
Mayfield finished his time in Norman as a three-time Big 12 champion and led the Sooners to a combined 34-6 record that included a trip to the College Football Playoff as a No. 2 seed in 2017.
He was drafted first overall in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.
