3. Georgia’s new offense and tough schedule

The SEC has become extremely top-heavy over the years, the top of the conference has some of the best football programs in the country and legit national title contenders, while the bottom isn’t anywhere close to the top and won’t be for a long time.

This is true again this season, especially in the East division with Florida and Georgia.

Even though I really like what Jeremy Pruitt is building at Tennessee, they’re still clearly a level below and then after another big drop off you find South Carolina, Missouri and Vanderbilt. It’s pretty clear that the Bulldogs will be Florida’s biggest competition for the division title.

Georgia will be replacing a decent amount of talent and has a tough start to their schedule. In what has become one of the best offensive lines year in and year out, Georgia will need to replace four starters this season. Kirby Smart has brought in top two classes for the past three years so there’s tons of young talent around the roster.

Arguably the most interesting transfer this season is Jamie Newman coming over to the Bulldogs from Wake Forest. If Newman and new offensive coordinator Todd Monken can gel, there’s no reason Georgia can’t win the SEC. If he struggles early on though, the Bulldogs tough opening to their schedule could leave them with too much ground to make up to catch the Gators.

After opening up against Arkansas, the Bulldogs face Auburn, Tennessee and Alabama. If Newman and the young line struggle early on and drop two of these games, it might be too much ground to make up.
