Winner: BYU (Up to No. 15)

I said it in the first installation of this series this year that analysts were not giving BYU enough credit for how impressive they have looked, but the voters this week took notice and moved the Cougars up to 15th in the Week 6 AP Top 25.

Quarterback Zach Wilson looked fantastic against Louisiana Tech and the BYU offense is a machine, racking up over 500 yards on offense. The schedule has not been the toughest, but BYU is clearly one of the better teams in the country and they have shown it with their play so far this season. Up next for the Cougars, a game against UTSA on Saturday.

Winner: SMU (Up to No. 18)

SMU finally took down Memphis on Saturday, a team that they have been unable to beat in recent years, and they were rewarded with a No. 18 ranking in the Week 6 AP Top 25.

After jumping out to a big lead on the Tigers, SMU faltered a bit and gave the lead away and saw Memphis claw their way back into the game. The Mustangs held on and ended a losing streak to the Tigers and emerged as a contender in the AAC. SMU has a date with Cincinnati in a few weeks and that could determine who gets the Group of Five’s spot in the New Year’s Six.
