Scouting Report. Alabama. Mac Jones. player. 42. Pick Analysis. QB. 3

I’m as shocked at this selection as you are. A recent report by Ian Rapoport revealed that the 49ers were down to two quarterbacks: Trey Lance and Mac Jones. With too much uncertainty surrounding Lance, I see the Niners going after Jones here.

A month or two ago, I would have listed Jones as a late-first round pick, at best, but with this recent development, he’s soaring into the top five.

OK, so maybe Zach Wilson didn’t benefit the most from a 2020 season being played as Mac wasn’t on anyone’s radar following the 2019 campaign. He had 1,503 yards and 14 touchdowns with a 69 percent completion rate in 2019 as he replaced Tua Tagovailoa following an injury but he looked like a completely different player in 2020.

In fact, Jones passed for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns, and just four interceptions while owning a 203.1 rating and 77 percent completion rate.

San Francisco has some solid pieces to complete the puzzle on offense and Jones could be the guy to facilitate and lead the franchise back to the top.
