The freshman I’m most excited about from Florida’s 2021 class has to be Jason Marshall Jr. from Miami. He chose the Gators over the other in-state programs and essentially had his pick of the litter in terms of programs to commit to. This was a splash commitment for Dan Mullen as he kept the five-star cornerback home.

Even more intriguing is the fact that the Gators desperately needed help at defensive back when they landed him as they ranked No. 100 against the pass in college football in 2020.

Yeah, that’s not good.

Marshall comes in probably expecting immediate playing time and he should get it as long as he doesn’t proceed like he should have it handed to him. Sometimes with top-ranked guys, they just assume they’ll play without putting in the work, but I don’t see Marshall as that kind of player. He seems to have a good work ethic and should earn a spot in the two-deep.

Jaydon Hill is projected to start alongside Kaiir Elam at cornerback this season, but with the former not having much starting experience, I could see Marshall pushing him for that job.

I’d almost put money on the former No. 28 recruit in the 2021 class starting at corner beside Elam by the end of the season.
