3. West Virginia (-2.5) vs. Virginia Tech

It’s not often you see a ranked team in the top 15 playing an unranked opponent and being the underdog, but Vegas must feel exactly how I do about this matchup: it’s not good for Virginia Tech.

The Hokies had a heck of a season-opening win over North Carolina and really opened some eyes, and they beat Middle Tennessee by three touchdowns in Week 2, but I’m not sold on them. There’s not one thing the Hokies do exceptionally well as they average just about 340 yards per game on offense while giving up an average of 352. That’s not exactly a recipe for success.

West Virginia, on the other hand, hasn’t lost a home game since 2019 and it will be playing hungry for an upset after a slightly disappointing start to the season with a loss at Maryland.

The Mountaineers nearly beat the Terrapins, but left College Park with a six-point loss against a decent team and followed that up with a 66-0 beatdown of LIU. The Mountaineers’ offense is about 100 yards per game better than Virginia Tech’s and I think that’s the difference here.

I think West Virginia wins by a touchdown in Morgantown.
