Texas A&M vs Ole Miss big enough for College Gameday in Week 11
Texas A&M football has a lot to play for down the stretch and College Gameday made a good choice by featuring the Aggies and Ole Miss in Week 11.
College Gameday doesn’t make it to Oxford, Mississippi very often but this weekend, the popular pre-game show will make just its second appearance on the Ole Miss campus as the Rebels will host Texas A&M football in a huge SEC matchup.
Generally, the show will announce its destination on Sunday afternoon, but it was actually announced on Saturday that Texas A&M football and Ole Miss would be featured on College Gameday for Week 11 and it makes sense.
Both teams won on Saturday in key matchups. Ole Miss beat a pretty solid Liberty team while Texas A&M football rolled 13th-ranked Auburn. A&M and Auburn probably should have been featured last week but ESPN maybe didn’t want to showcase the SEC in consecutive weeks.
The Aggies, who are ranked 14th in the CFB Playoff rankings this week, could be in the top 10 by this week and both teams are in contention for the New Years Six.
And if things get really wacky, Texas A&M might have a shot to get into the College Football Playoff, although it would take being a two-loss SEC champion.
Ole Miss has two losses in the SEC West, just like Texas A&M does, however, it’s not likely that the Rebels could get to the title game.
Alabama owns the tiebreaker over Ole Miss, but what’s even more of an issue is that Auburn does too. The Tigers are the other team to beat Ole Miss so even if the Tigers beat Alabama and Ole Miss won out, creating a three-way tie, the Rebels wouldn’t win it.
Texas A&M football could make the SEC title game if Alabama lost to Auburn.
The Aggies would just need to win out in that scenario and in either case, if the Rebels or Aggies finish with two losses, they will be a shoo-in for a major bowl and if the SEC gets two teams in the playoff, the winner of this game will be the frontrunner for the Sugar Bowl.
That would be a major achievement for Ole Miss. Texas A&M football was aiming for the playoff this season, but with its second-string quarterback, a second straight NY6 bowl game would still be a solid achievement.
Ole Miss also has Heisman Trophy candidate Matt Corral and even though Kenneth Walker III became a frontrunner after the win over Michigan, his Spartans lost last weekend and the race is still pretty wide open.
A big win and a big finish should keep Corral in contention and might be enough to get him to New York as a finalist.
SEC Nation will also feature Texas A&M Football and Ole Miss
ESPN will be broadcasting the game at 7 PM EST which is another reason why it’s not that surprising to see College Gameday making an appearance.
SEC Nation will also be in Oxford for the biggest game on the SEC schedule this week which was a no-brainer.
Obviously, Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff isn’t going to be in the same location and it goes to the biggest game on Fox that week, which is Oklahoma and Baylor.
The matchup lost a little luster when the Bears were upset by TCU but Baylor still has a shot to reach the Big 12 title game, although it’s more remote, and Oklahoma has everything to play for after being ranked eighth in the first CFB playoff rankings.
