This one looks like it’s going to be an all-SEC battle and that makes it tough for the Gators to land Jacoby Mathews because he’s already forged relationships with his other top schools.

Programs like LSU, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Texas are all pushing for Mathews but Florida got his final official visit before National Signing Day which could be a good sign. If you go by strictly crystal balls on 247Sports, it would be down to just LSU and Texas A&M, but you can’t count the Gators out after getting that last official, however.

Mathews is ranked the No. 36 overall recruit and fourth-best safety in the 2022 class. He’s planning on making his final decision on signing day and the Gators have a fighter’s chance.

Andrew Ivins of 247Sports compared him to Ronnie Harrison and says that he has the look of a future 2-3 round NFL draft pick. Not too shabby.

Mathews would undoubtedly help get the Gators’ defense back on track.
