Jones leaves Florida with 3,347 passing yards and 26 touchdowns and 1,273 rushing yards and two rushing scores. Jones was a top 100 player and the fifth-rated dual-threat quarterback in 2018. Where does Jone land? Here are some possibilities.
Honorable mentions: Baylor, Arizona State
Both of these schools are long shots, though the Sun Devils are targeting Jones after the transfer of Jayden Daniels. Arizona State seems like a risk with NCAA penalties possibly looming. In addition, Jones is from Georgia and might not want to leave the SEC football.
Distance is also an issue with Baylor. However, this is a scheme fit for Jones. Offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes likes to run the quarterback to establish the play-action game. In addition, Jones is an upgrade over Gerry Bohanon and Blake Shapen.
5. Kentucky Wildcats
This move is also a long shot since the Wildcats have Will Levis. Jones is an upgrade over Levis. In addition, new offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello comes from the San Fransisco 49ers, who ran the football. Jones is a plus in the running game and a better passer than Levis.
Jones can make all the throws, including the intermediate throws in the middle of the field, which the 49ers often did. Levis excels at the deep ball but struggles with the mid-range throws. If the offensive coaching staff is not in love with Levis, Jones should be a serious consideration.
