5. Nebraska Cornhuskers

Nebraska may have been one of the best 3-9 teams in college football history and now that I’m actually typing that out, it sounds condescending. But I swear, it’s a compliment.

The Cornhuskers won just three games, but all nine losses were by nine points or fewer, and eight of those were decided by one score. Nebraska was a handful of good bounces away from being 9-3 or 10-2, at the very least. Scott Frost’s team had one of the toughest schedules in college football and still managed to put up a strong fight each week.

Heck, they almost beat Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Iowa. All of those opponents were ranked and Nebraska was in a position to win each one.

Although Frost brings back just nine starters and loses Adrian Martinez to Kansas State, Casey Thompson transfers in from Texas to start at quarterback and there’s plenty of talent on the roster to turn things around and maybe — just maybe — get the Cornhuskers to their first bowl game under the head coach.
