Looking back at College Football Week 7 and here are five things we learned about College Football Playoff contenders, the Heisman Trophy race, and more.

If you needed a reminder, Week 7 was a great reminder of why we love college football. In a nutshell, it had everything — big games, upsets, and fantastic finishes.

We even saw Tennessee football fans tear down the goalposts after the Vols knocked off Alabama and carried them all to a local river.

It was pandemonium but as I said, it was another reminder of why this sport is unlike any other, and here’s what we learned during College Football Week 7.

Tennessee football is a playoff contender

After knocking off Alabama with an incredible game-winning drive by Hendon Hooker, there’s no doubt that the Vols are a playoff contender.

Their resume looks as good as just about anyone right now. Wins over Florida, LSU, Pittsburgh, and Alabama make up a pretty solid resume.

Of course, it doesn’t matter much where the Vols rank now. They control their own destiny. The issue is that Georgia and Kentucky still loom on the schedule.

A big question is what if Tennesse football finishes 11-1 and loses to Georgia? Say Alabama lost in the SEC title game to Georgia, then the Vols would be in a good position to make it. Kentucky could give them another solid win.

Winning at Georgia is asking a lot. But if the Vols are able to finish 11-1, they are still going to have an opportunity and this is a team that needs to be taken seriously. C.J. Stroud has been impressive but Hendon Hooker is the midseason Heisman Trophy winner in my book.

He’s willed the Vols to victory multiple times and did it Saturday night to slay Nick Saban.
