The early signing period for college football recruiting continued on Thursday and here’s the latest including another flip from Peyton Bowen.

As we said in our reaction post to Early National Signing Day, college football recruiting is crazy and Peyton Bowen is a really good example of that.

Bowen was committed to Notre Dame for a long time before the projections for Oklahoma came in during the past week.

Yet, instead of picking the Sooners, Peyton Bowen reached for an Oregon hat on Signing Day making it the shock of college football recruiting early signing day.

No one expected the Ducks to pull off that move. However, there were reports that Oregon hadn’t received Bowen’s letter of intent and the reason for that is because his mind wasn’t made up.

Bowen posted on Twitter that he was actually going to sign with Oklahoma. He apologized to fans of Notre Dame and Oregon but announced a commitment, which is a big get for the Sooners, who were left feeling like a loser on signing day.

Oregon was viewed as the big winner and while the Ducks still had a big day, the loss of Peyton Bowen takes a little shine off Oregon’s big day.

Alabama gets another five-star

The Crimson Tide already had more five-star recruits than any team in the 2023 college football recruiting class with six, but Alabama landed another on Thursday in Desmond Ricks, a 6-foot-1 corner from the IMG Academy. He’s ranked 23rd overall and is No. 2 among cornerbacks.

It’s not surprising but the idea that Alabama has had seven five-star signees in one class is pretty frightening and Nick Saban seems like a coach on a mission.

Florida State flips a four-star safety from LSU

In another solid move for Florida State’s recruiting class, the Seminoles flipped four-star safety Conrad Hussey away from LSU.

The Noles held the commitment of Hykeem Williams on signing day and are closing the 2023 college football recruiting class strong with Hussey who is one of eight four-star recruits signing with Florida State.

The 6-foot, 190-pound safety ranked 238th overall by the 247 sports composite rankings was also heavily pursued by Miami. Hussey is from Fort Lauderdale and the 47th-ranked player in the state of Florida, making this recruiting win even sweeter for Mike Novell and Florida State.

It’s crazy how much the narrative about the Seminoles has changed from a year ago at this time.
