5. Season 5 (Laney College)
Unfortunately, the final season of Last Chance U‘s football coverage was the worst, in my opinion, of the bunch.
Don’t get me wrong, there were plenty of likable characters in guys like Dior Walker-Scott, RJ Stern, Nu’u Taugavau and Rejzohn Wright. Even John Beam was probably the most likable of the head coaches from all the seasons, but there was just too much vanilla and not enough of what made this show great for four seasons.
What do I mean by this? The whole premise of Last Chance U was based around guys with Division 1 talent who saw their opportunities limited and had one final chance to make it to the big show at a prominent JUCO known for accepting controversial personalities. That just didn’t happen this season.
It was a final chance for Walker-Scott and Stern who both felt like they had Division 1 talent, but there were only four or five guys with real shots at the next level.
And there was no controversy which makes the show great. It’s not necessary, but it definitely adds some spice and watchability.
Season 5 was very average and kind of left a sour taste in many fans’ mouths.
